Serenity (aka Shamatha) Meditation

Learn how to apply the mental powers of mindfulness, introspection, and meta-awareness to train your concentration - the ability to rest single-pointedly on an object of your wish, without distraction or dullness, and with a deep sense of executive control and immersive joy.

We're teaching this topic based on the Serenity section of the Great Treatise to the Stages of the Path to Enlightment (Vol. 3) by Tsongkhapa.

The Bodhisattva Practices

Learn the bodhisattva practices and methods for developing bodhicitta (infinite altruism that motivates one to aim towards enlightenment) from the 2nd volume of Lam Rim Chen Mo - The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Englightenment.

Teacher Bio:

Othok Rinpoche Tenzin Dhamchoe was born on 6 July 1975 in Lithang, Tibet in a family of farmer-nomads.

He escaped from Tibet in the year 1986. He was then recognised as the re-incarnation of Othok Puntsang Lobsang Dhamchoe Rinpoche by His Holiness The Dalai Lama in the year 1987. He underwent the traditional philosophy studies from 1986 to 2007 and was awarded the degree of Geshe Lharampa. He then completed one year of Ngarampa studies at the Tantric monastery. He now resides in New London, CT.

Nestled in a quiet farmscape, our monastery offers a peaceful space for meditation and learning. At present, we are focusing on bringing authentic Dharma teachings to the local community. Future development phases include building out residential facilities to train and educate a residential monastic community.

Who can join?

Anyone interested in Buddhist teachings and meditation is welcome.

What is the class fee?

All classes and events are offered without charge, while your tax-deductible donations are welcome to support the Sangha and allow us to offer more Dharma.

Do I need to register?

There is no need to register. Sign up for our e-mail list on the bottom of this page to learn about future programs.

What should I bring?

You may like to bring the text for the class you are attending. Please wear comfortable clothing that is appropriate for being around celibate monks and nuns.

Are beginners welcome?

Absolutely - our courses are designed to support people at all levels of learning, especially beginners.

Where are the events held?

Classes are held in the main house that you will see when you drive into the parking area. Follow the signs to enter. Some events take place outdoors (depending on weather).
